Terms & disclaimers

If you are in immediate danger, call 911. For a mental health or addictions crisis in NL, call 811, or call/text 988. NLMH is a directory — it is not an emergency service and cannot respond to crises.

What NLMH is — and isn't

NLMH is a free, independent directory that helps people find existing mental health, addictions, and crisis services in Newfoundland and Labrador. It is not a health-care provider, does not provide counselling or treatment, and is not a substitute for professional or emergency care.

NLMH is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador or NL Health Services.

Not medical advice or diagnosis

Everything on this site — including topic guides and the self-check questionnaires — is general information for self-reflection, not medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. A self-check result can never tell you whether you have a condition; only a qualified professional can. Always seek the advice of a physician or qualified provider with any questions about your health.

Accuracy of information

We compile listings from public sources and work to keep them current — each listing shows a last-verified date, and some are flagged as needing confirmation. Even so, phone numbers, hours, and programs change, and information is provided “as is” without warranty of accuracy or completeness. Confirm details directly with a service before relying on them, and please report anything out of date.

Other organizations and links

Listings and links point to other organizations — government services, non-profits, and private providers — each with its own practices, policies, and quality of service. Listing a service is not an endorsement, and we are not responsible for the content, availability, or conduct of third parties. Once you leave NLMH, that organization’s terms and privacy policy apply.

The help assistant (automated AI)

The optional “Ask for help” assistant is an automated AI tool, not a person and not a counsellor. It can make mistakes, so verify anything important against the linked listing. Please don’t enter personal health details or anything that identifies you. See the privacy page for how messages are handled.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, NLMH and its contributors are not liable for any loss or harm arising from your use of this site or reliance on its information, or from the services of any organization listed here. Use of the site is at your own risk.

Accessibility

We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA and to make this site usable with a keyboard, screen reader, and reduced-motion settings. Accessibility is ongoing — if you hit a barrier, email hello@nlmh.ca and we’ll do our best to fix it and help you get the information another way.

Changes

We may update these terms; material changes will be reflected here in the same plain language. Questions? Email hello@nlmh.ca.
